Change a Bikram Sambat date to an English (AD) date, or an AD date to नेपाली मिति.
Nepali date to English date. English or Nepali digits both work.
English date to Nepali date (नेपाली मिति).
The tool has two parts. Use the one that matches the date you already have.
Each result shows the weekday in English and Nepali, the month name in both languages, and the date in Devanagari digits, such as २०८३ असोज १५. If a date does not exist, for example day 32 in a month of 31 days, the tool tells you how many days that month has.
Bikram Sambat (BS), also written Vikram Samvat, बिक्रम सम्बत or विक्रम संवत, is the official calendar of Nepal. Government offices, schools, banks and newspapers in Nepal use it. Many Nepali documents, such as the citizenship certificate, show the date of birth in BS. In Nepal, the Gregorian calendar used in most other countries is called AD, or the English date.
The BS year number is 56 or 57 more than the AD year:
This is why people say BS is about 56 years and 8 months ahead of AD. The BS new year, Baisakh 1, comes in mid-April. In every year this tool supports, it falls on 13 or 14 April.
BS months follow the Sun. A new month starts when the Sun moves into the next sign of the zodiac. This moment is called a sankranti. Seen from the Earth, the Sun moves faster at some times of the year than at others, so the time from one sankranti to the next changes. In summer the months are long: Jestha, Asar and Shrawan have 31 or 32 days. In winter they are short: Poush and Magh have 29 or 30 days.
The day each month starts depends on the exact time of the sankranti. So the same month can have 31 days one year and 32 days the next, and there is no simple formula. Calendar makers in Nepal work out the months with the traditional Surya Siddhanta method. A government committee, the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Bikas Samiti, checks and approves the calendars before they are published. Because of this, a converter needs a table with the length of every month of every year. This tool has that table for BS 2000 to 2083.
The tool counts days from a fixed starting point: BS 2000 Baisakh 1, which was 14 April 1943. Here is the same method by hand for 15 Asoj 2083:
AD to BS works the other way: count the days since 14 April 1943, then take away whole years and months. The tool counts plain calendar days, so your time zone cannot move the result.
All results below come from this tool.

Nepal's fiscal year (आर्थिक वर्ष) starts on Shrawan 1 and ends on the last day of Asar in the next BS year. In AD, this is mid-July to mid-July. Fiscal year 2082/83 ran from 17 July 2025 to 16 July 2026, which was Asar 32, 2083. Fiscal year 2083/84 started on 17 July 2026. It ends on the last day of Asar 2084, around mid-July 2027. The exact AD date depends on the 2084 calendar, which is not final yet.
BS is about 56 years and 8 months ahead of AD. From Baisakh 1 in mid-April to 31 December, the BS year is the AD year plus 57. From 1 January to the end of Chaitra in mid-April, it is the AD year plus 56. For example, 1 October 2026 is 15 Asoj 2083.
The Nepali New Year is Baisakh 1. It falls on 13 or 14 April. BS 2081 started on 13 April 2024, BS 2082 on 14 April 2025 and BS 2083 on 14 April 2026.
BS months follow the Sun. A month starts when the Sun enters the next zodiac sign, and the Sun seems to move at different speeds during the year. So months have 29 to 32 days, and the same month can have 31 days one year and 32 the next. That is why a converter needs a table for every year instead of a formula.
BS 2000 Baisakh 1 to BS 2083 Chaitra 30, which is 14 April 1943 to 13 April 2027. Older years are left out because the open-source data we checked disagree. BS 2084 is not supported yet, because its official calendar is not out and the sources do not agree on its month lengths.
The Today button uses the date on your own device. Nepal uses UTC+5:45. If you live in another time zone, your date and the date in Nepal are different for part of the day. Pick the date by hand if you need the date in Nepal.
Nepal's fiscal year starts on Shrawan 1, in mid-July, and ends on the last day of Asar in the next BS year. Fiscal year 2083/84 started on 17 July 2026.
